I live in Rio de Janeiro and I have more sense of community here than I ever did anywhere I lived in England. When I am locked out I don’t need to saunter to a coffee shop and wait for my housemate. I can knock on next door and wait there. It’s such a simple thing that makes me feel so comforted with where I live.

Also, It’s true what you said about people trying to appear so nonchalant about life. I found that in London too. People were too cool to care. As if only if an actual miracle was done in front of their face could a genuine reaction of glee occur. But, I do get excited over things: like a band, I like coming to Brazil or finding a great bakery. AND I DON’T CARE. It’s not cool to not care: it’s cool to care.

p.s I thought your invite was really funny. You got the tone just right in my opinion
